It’s based on the lunar cycle and thus, the date usually falls between January and February depending on the start of spring in the lunar calendar. With fireworks, dances, processions and other extraordinary displays, the celebrations are a real sight to behold. The celebration is also believed to be significant to ensure good fortune for the coming year. The Chinese zodiac is a repeating 12-year cycle of animal signs and their ascribed attributes, based on the lunar calendar. The Lunar New Year marks the transition from one animal to the next—2021 is the year of the Ox, which began on February 12, 2021, and ends on January 31st, 2022. February 1, 2022 (Chinese New Year), will signal the start of the year of the Tiger. Click HERE to learn more about the Chinese zodiac.
